Assessment Against the Skills Standard of the 
AQIS Methyl Bromide Fumigation Standard

Assessment for Competency Qualification under the AQIS Australian Fumigation Accreditation Scheme (AFAS) is available from Peter Meadows Consulting.

Peter Meadows Consulting (PMC) is recognised by AQIS as having the qualified personnel and the accredited processes to carry out this work.

Candidates who are successfully assessed will be issued with a Certificate of Competency that will be recognised by both AQIS and the Quarantine Department in the country participating in the AFAS process as one of the requirements for Accreditation under AFAS

ProcessFace to Face Assessment

Assessment is carried out in two stages:

  1. A face-to-face interview with a qualified assessor to determine the level of understanding of fumigation practices and of the underpinning knowledge of fumigation principles; and
  2. A practical assessment as part of a small team where an actual fumigation with methyl bromide of a container under sheet is carried out.

Requirements

Candidates for assessment against the AFAS Skills Standard must meet the following requirements:Practical Assessment

  1. They must have attended a Fumigation Practices for Quarantine Purposes course approved by AQIS; OR
    They must have attended a Fumigation Practices for Quarantine Purposes course run by an organisation approved by AQIS; OR
    They must have attended a Fumigation Practices for Quarantine Purposes course run by a Government Agency approved by AQIS for this purpose.
  2. Where required they must have enrolled for assessment and been provided with the two disk Resource Package for Trainees provided by PMC.

Candidates for assessment should present at the assessment venue in good time for the assessment with the following:

  • Working clothes;
  • Stout leather shoes or boots;
  • A full-face respirator with matching filter canister rated for at least 30 minutes for methyl bromide;
  • A Ready-Reckoner (issued during the course);
  • A calculator; and
  • A pen

Please Note – unless agreement has been reached with PMC regarding payment after assessment, all candidates must pay the full fee prior to the date deadline for that assessment program.
